A little about High Dynamic Range (HDR) Photography:  Compared to the human eye the range of luminance (brightness) a camera can see is very limited.  A photo can appear "washed out" at the brighter end of the spectrum or the subject can be hidden in the shadows at the darker end of the spectrum even though the view looks fine to the human eye.  The result is usually a picture you're not happy with.

HDR photography is a process of taking several pictures (usually 3 to 5) at different exposures from under exposed to over exposed.  The pictures are then merged into one using software applications.  It provides a range of light in the picture that comes a little closer to that of the human eye.

What I like most about Alamo Plaza 3 is the reflection of the water off the cobblestone street and the vivid colors generated from the lights reflected off the buildings. This photo was done in HDR* using software to blend five images into one.

This Photo was taken in October, 2015, also using software to obtain a broader range of light.  Using HDR* reduced some of the shadowing in the photo making it an accurate representation of what the eye sees.

This is a winter scene in Sequoia National Park in 1985.  It was taken with a Canon AE1.  Many years later the negative was scanned  to create a digital image.  I think this was "a good shot taken by accident" considering my lack of photography experience at the time.  It has remained one of my favorites.

This is a picture of a gondola and water bus in Venice, Italy.  It was taken from one of the many bridges.
