Yellowstone National Park occupies territory in 3 states.  According to the National Park Service, 96% of Yellowstone is located in Wyoming, with another 3% in Montana, and 1% in Idaho.

About Yellowstone:

Yellowstone National Park Became the first National Park in the United States on March 1, 1872.  Congress approved the National Park Service in August of 1916 to provide park management.  In 1918 the first Yellowstone rangers took stewardship of the park. President Hoover signed an executive order in 1932 which adjusted the boundaries to conform more closely to natural topographic features of the region.  This resulted in the addition of 7,000 acres to the Park.

The park is most famous for the Old Faithful. the geyser located in Upper Geyser Basin.  Old Faithful and the other geysers and springs located in in Upper Geyser Basin provide a unique view of the thermal activity in the region.  Down the road, Black Sand Basin, Biscuit Basin, Midway Geyser Basin, and Lower Geyser Basin also offer fascinating views caused by the thermal activity.

Some interesting Facts about Yellowstone National Park (Source: National Park Foundation):

Yellowstone National Park sits on top of a dormant volcano.

It has more geysers and hot springs than any other place on earth.

Approximately 50 percent of the world’s hydrothermal activity is at Yellowstone National Park.

Old Faithful is the most famous of all the geysers.

Yellowstone has around 4 million visitors each year.
